''Corne Weideman Biography''
Corne Weideman
Corne Weideman is a South African Impressionist painter who was born in 1977 in Rustenburg. He matriculated in 1995 in Robertson in the Western Cape and moved to Cape Town in 2010 after the death of his mentor, renowned South African Old Master, Adriaan Boshoff.
Corne studied under Adriaan Boshoff and even stayed with him for a year where he benefited from the advice and guidance Boshoff shared with him. After an initial 3 months under Boshoff tutorage in 2005 he, on Boshoff’s advice, did a 3 months trip to Ireland to gain some valuable international exposure. Upon his return from Ireland he stayed with Boshoff for another year while he was taught what the “Life of a true artist” was all about.
“I could never comprehend what the effect of Boshoff’s invitation to teach me would have on my life. I am forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me and all the valuable hours which he has invested in me. In a way the life of an artist found me without even looking for it. I believe someone bigger brought me to Uncle Arrie.”
Adriaan Boshoff was not only Corne’s mentor but also his inspiration.
“Uncle Adriaan taught me how to be an artist. It is about more than just the ability to paint. It is a way of how life is perceived. Value every small moment and capture those moments that people love. Like his life my life is dedicated to the endeavour for perfection in my work.”
“The hours we spent talking at the kitchen table when I lived in his house moulded me. The discussions always cantering on more than mere lines, light and technique. We discussed life and the deeper meanings of life”
Corne has been painting for 16 years now. The growth in his work has in a short time also been notice by investors and art lovers all over the world in as faraway places as England, New Zealand and Australia. At the age of 44 Corne still has many years left to paint “God willing” to exceed the old South African masters, as his mentor believed.
Since Adriaan Boshoff’s death in 2007 Corne continued to study the old masters that Adriaan Boshoff also studied and admired.
“Uncle Adriaan told me that he would sit with a magnify glass and study their works.” This was “a good habit which I picked up from the start” Corne said. “I am eternally grateful for this and the other nuggets of gold Uncle Adriaan shared with me. Knowing who inspired him and what made him a master has meant a great deal for my personal development.”
His work already reached investment status despite his relatively young age. Corne’s work was exhibited along with famous South African artists such as Maggie Loubser, Gregoire Boonzaier, Frans Claerhout, Thinus de Jong, Otto Klar and many more. Newspaper article articles associated him with some of the best artist and his work even reached international acclaim with it being exhibited at the Chelseia Art Fair in London, UK.
Keep a watchful eye on this young aspiring artist. His works will hang with the great artists of our time!
